The discovery of the atomic nucleus

This painting is inspired by Rutherford’s scattering effect.
In this experiment proof was made that the atom has a nucleus.
Rutherford was doing this by shooting alpha particles on a gold foil. In this way he could show
that some particles passed right through the foil whereas others were deflected at various angles
or even bounced back.
